les mis details summer 08

In July, in collaboration with Weymouth Civic Society, WOW will be repeating their much-acclaimed performance of Les Miserables(Schools Edition) at the Nothe Fort – a Napoleonic Fort in Weymouth. This will be a new venture for WOW – we have occasionally performed on stage on Weymouth Beach, and in concert in the open air in Dorchester, but this will be the first major open-air full production for the Company.

The show will be directed, as it was the first time, by Scott St Martyn, and he, and the stage management team, will have a few obstacles to overcome before the show comes to fruition in July. The sound and lighting will obviously be very different in an open-air setting, but we have an extremely good team on the job, and the show will be very exciting, and a great experience for performers and audience alike.

There have had to be some changes in the original cast, as some of the leading performers have left the company, some going on to stage school to further their training. Following auditions, we have re-cast all the parts with the exception of Little Cosette, as we do not have anyone in the present company young enough to take the part. Consequently, open auditions are being held for young girls from the local area to join us for the show. We will also be choosing someone from these auditions to take the part of Young Eponine.

Tickets for the show, which runs from Wed 30 th July – Sun 3 rd August 2008, are now on sale from “Stars Dancewear” in the Colwell Centre in Weymouth – Tel 01305 766801. The gates at the Nothe will open at 6pm – come along, bring a picnic and enjoy a brilliant show in a wonderful setting!
